The Art of Tea Making
Drinking tea is as much a ritual of contemplation and conversation as it is a delicious way to help heal the body and refresh the mind.
To bring out the best healing properties in your tea always start with cold water. It retains more oxygen.
How to Make Herbal Tea:
1) Preheat your teapot: While the cold water is heating up, fill your teapot with hot tap water. Let it warm, then drain it completely. My grandmother called it ‘Hot the Pot’
2) Herbal teas are delicate in flavour so bring the water to a gentle boil -- small bubbles & some steam.
3) Never over boil your water. Turn heat off and let the water sit long enough to calm below the boil to retain all the benefits in the Herb
4) Add 1tsp of your herb of choice in your warmed tea pot and pour the water over the herbs. Always add water to the herbs never herbs to the water.
5) Let the Tea steep! Let it sit several minutes. The hot water draws the benefits of the Herb, as the tea cools. Some teas require a longer time so always check with your herbalist. Don't apply additional heat to keep the tea warm, as this will quickly degrade the herbs. Find a great tea cozy to keep the tea heated!
6) Now for the most difficult part. Pour yourself a cup of tea and sit down for at least 10 minutes. Connect with the power of the herbs. As you drink the tea notice the taste, the aroma and how the tea makes you feel.
Most herbal teas can be infused two to five times. Just add more gently boiled water and let it steep once again.
